Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Euglena is Euglena viridis (O.F.Müller) Ehrenberg.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Euglena granulata (G.A.Klebs) F.Schmitz.

Type locality: "Strassenrinnen, etc"; (Index Nominum Algarum) Lectotype: fig. 20 in pl. I in Schmitz (1884): see below (epitype) (Karnkowska-Ishikawa et al. 2012: 735) Notes: INA uses the term Neotype. [original material lost?]. Epitype (Karnkowska-Ishikawa et al. 2012: 735: fig. 1, f, g, and i): Permanently preserved material (cells in resin, for EM) from strain ACOI 919 deposited at the Herbarium of the Biology Faculty at the Univ. of Warsaw.
