The type species (holotype) of the genus Dinastridium is Dinastridium sexangulare Pascher.

Type locality: "Found in a tub full of Lemna in the University grounds, Reading, in March and April 1936, when it appeared and has not been found again." [Reading, England]; (Harris 1940: 27)
