The type species (lectotype) of the genus Cymbella is Cymbella cymbiformis C.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Encyonopsis mendosa (Van Landingham) Da Silva & Menezes.

Indonesia: Sulawesi: Lake Wawantoa [Celebes: Wawontosee, Mahalonesee, Towoetisee, Matanosee] (INA).
