The type species (holotype) of the genus Batrachospermum is Batrachospermum gelatinosum (Linnaeus) De Candolle.
Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Torularia puiggariana (Grunow) M.J.Wynne
Type locality: Pungo Andongo, Africa. Freq. ast unico loco in branchio laterali flum. Cuanza prope ejus cataract. ad Congo (Index Nominum Algarum). Lectotype: Welwitsch No. 2; Mar 1857; LISU 10 (Sheath, Vis & Cole 1993: 720). Notes: ..., Angola (Sheath et al. 1993)
