Type locality: Brazil: Est. Sao Paulo: Apiaí (24.31ºS, 48.50ºW); Uruguay: Montevideo (Index Nominum Algarum). Lectotype (fide Geissler, Kusber & Jahn 2006: 101): Y.I. Puiggari; prior to 1883; S (Sheath, Vis & Cole 1993: 720). Notes: Apiaí, Sao Paulo, Brasil (Entwisle et al., 2016: 392).
