Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Campylodiscus is Campylodiscus clypeus (Ehrenberg) Ehrenberg ex Kützing.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Coronia echeneis (Ehrenberg ex Kützing) Ehrenberg.

Syntype localities: "Marine or brackish water. Poole Bay, Nov. 1848. Lewes, 1850, W. Sm. Coast of Norfolk, Mr. Brightwell. (Hudson River.)"; (Smith 1853: 30)
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), sieve-like, profusely perforated, with numerous small holes (Stearn 1973).
