The type species (holotype) of the genus Himantidium is Himantidium arcus (Ehrenberg) Ehrenberg.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Eunotogramma marinum (W.Smith) Grunow.

Type locality: Marine. Very rare in rocky pools near Biarritz; (Index Nominum Algarum)

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), growing in the sea (Stearn 1973).
