Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Pinnularia is Pinnularia viridis (Nitzsch) Ehrenberg.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Berkeleya scopulorum (Brébisson ex Kützing) E.J.Cox.
