According to Silva et al. (1996) the following taxa apparently lie within the circumspection of this species but have not yet been transferred or reduced to synonymy: Sargassum brevifolium var. pergracile Grunow Sargassum brevifolium [var. pergracile] forma subecostatum Grunow - (11 May 2006) - G.M.
