Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Chlorogonium is Chlorogonium euchlorum (Ehrenberg) Ehrenberg.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Gungnir kasakii (H.Nozaki) T.Nakada.

Type locality: Priest Pot, Cumbria, England; (Nozaki, Ohta, Morita & Watanabe 1998: 1033) Holotype: Nozaki et al. 1998: fig. 37 based on CCAP 12/8: Jaworski; 1985; (Nozaki, Ohta, Morita & Watanabe 1998: 1033) Notes: Epitype (designated by Nakada 2008): the NIES- 50005 strain permanently cryopreserved in the Microbial Culture Collection at NIES. Priest Pot is a small tarn a few hundred yards north of Esthwaite Water, near Hawkshead.
