Type locality: Windmill Islands, Wilkes Land, Antarctica (400 m south-west of the Biology building, Casey); (Ling & Seppelt 1993: 77) Holotype: H.U. Ling; 28 January 1992; red snow on cliff face; Antartic Division Herbarium (ADT); (Ling & Seppelt 1993: 79, 77) Notes: The species has been isolated into pure culture and is maintained at the Australian Antarctic Division.
