Description
Valve moderately sigmoid, narrowly lanceolate, gradually tapering to acutely rounded ends, 90-150µm long, 18-22µm wide. Raphe sternum with single curvature, raphe angle +8 to + 11°, straight in the middle portion, gently curving and becoming eccentric near the apex. Central raphe fissures only just extending into the central area, crook-shaped and dimorphic (oppositely deflected to either the convexity or concavity of their raphe branch on the two valves of a frustule). Central area elliptic, symmetric. Terminal areas wide, occupying the entire apex of the valve, with an isolated apical row of minute foramina, at the limit of visibility in the LM. Striae transverse 18-20 in 10µm, longitudinal clearly coarser, 16-18 in 10µm.

Habitat
A marine and estuarine species fairly frequently growing, sometimes as large populations, on marine mudflats and in saltmarshes. So far personally (Sterrenburg) observed on British, French, Dutch, German and Mauritanian (Banc d'Arguin) shores.
