The type species (holotype) of the genus Hemiaulus is Hemiaulus proteus Heiberg.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Rutilaria amplectans (Grove & Sturt) R.Ross.

Participle B (Latin), clasping (Stearn 1973).
