Syntype localities: "On the western coast of North America, generally in deep water: at Nooka; Trinidad; Monterrey [Nootka, British Columbia; Trinidad, Humbolt Co., California; Monterey, Monterey Co., California] (Turner 1807-1808: 58). Lectotype: Archibald Menzies; Unknown; BM-K? (Smith 1944: 149). Notes: Nooka was selected as lectotype locality by Smith (1944: 149).
