Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Polycavernosa is Polycavernosa fastigiata C.F.Chang & B.M.Xia.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Gracilaria vanbosseae (I.A.Abbott) I.A.Abbott.
Type Information
Holotype locality: Off Jedan Island, Indonesia; (Abbott 1988: 153) Holotype: 10-11 m depth; L; 941.49.17 (Abbott 1988: 153) Notes: Holotype: cystocarpic specimen on sheet L 941.49.17. Isotype under the same number and from the same collection (cystocarpic); syntype, a sporangial plant under the same number and from the same collection. Other specimen(s): L 941.49.11 from Sapeh Bay, Sumbawa Island, Indonesia. All in Leiden Herbarium.
