The type species (holotype) of the genus Rhodomonas is Rhodomonas baltica Karsten.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Plagioselmis nannoplanctica (Skuja) G.Novarino, I.A.N.Lucas & Morrall.
