Type locality: Japan: Mihonoseki, Izumo Prov., on Chondria (Index Nominum Algarum). Type: SAP 025880 (Yoshida 1998: 1065). Notes: Holotype: SAPP 25880; Mihonoseki, Shimane Prefecture, Japan; vi.1948 (Díaz-Tapia et al., 2017: table 4).

Origin of species name
Participle B (Latin), with prostrate stems, the tips rising upwards (Stearn 1973).
