The type species (lectotype) of the genus Syracosphaera is Syracosphaera pulchra Lohmann.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Chrysotila roscoffensis (P.A.Dangeard) R.A.Andersen, J.I.Kim, Tittley & H.S.Yoon.
