Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ptilota densa C.Agardh
Ptilota densa C.Agardh
Type locality: Ad caput bon. sp. Spec. ded. Desfontaines. Com. de Sternberg (Agardh 1822: 387). Lectotype: LD Ag. no. 20101 (Bruce & Saunders 2016 '2017': 40). Notes: Although listed as being from the Cape of Good Hope, the type is more like to have been collected from the Monterey Peninsula, California. Dawson (1962: 74) notes that the type is a specimen marked "e coll. Haenkiana", so Agardh's entry clearly was an error. Tadeá Haenke (1761-1816) came to the west coast of North America with the Malaspina expedition in 1791. His collections were one of the first large botanical collections from the area. He made his mark exploring North and, especially, South America, the Philippines, and the Mariana Islands; he visited the Monterey Peninsula around 1792.
