This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Chlorococcum oleofaciens Trainor & Bold.

Type locality: Belánska Tatra Mountains (Velky Zlab) Czechoslovakia; (Archibald 1979: 308) Holotype: figs 5, 6: isolated by Hindák; snow detritus; Culture Collection of algae at Lab. of Algology in Trebon; isolate HIN 65/167 (Archibald 1979: 308) Notes: Material deposited at the culture collection of Algae at Iniv. of Texas-Austin, Texas. [= UTEX LB 2224] (Kawasaki et al., 2015: 1010).

Adjective (Latin), granulose (Stearn 1973).
