The type species (lectotype) of the genus Peyssonnelia is Peyssonnelia squamaria (S.G.Gmelin) Decaisne ex J.Agardh.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Agissea orientalis (Weber Bosse) Pestana, Lyra, Cassano & J.M.C Nunes.
