Syntype localities: "In the shell-fish tanks at Conway, North Wales, in an aquarium at Lowestoft, and in the estuaries of Helford river and the Crouch [England], apparently common."; (Butcher 1952: 178) Notes: No type designated and figs 1-5 are not localised.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), ending abruptly in a sharp point or apiculum (Stearn 1973).
