Type locality: 1 mi. e. of White Cove, Santa Catalina Island, California (Dawson 1962: 90). Holotype: 31 October 1948; dredged in 60 m., on brachiopod bottom. Herb. A. Hancock Foundation E. Y. Dawson 5519 (Dawson 1962: 90).
Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), deep, from a great depth (Dawes & Mathieson 2008).
