Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Thamnophora is Thamnophora corallorhiza (Turner) C.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Plocamium cirrhosum (Turner) M.J.Wynne.

Type locality: Bay of Islands, New Zealand; (Wynne 2002: 351)
