The type species (lectotype) of the genus Peyssonnelia is Peyssonnelia squamaria (S.G.Gmelin) Decaisne ex J.Agardh.

Peyssonnelia atlantica C.W.Schneider & Reading 1987
Maggs (in Womersley, 1994: 163) concluded that P. atlantica Schneider & Reading is conspecific with P. boudouresquei.
This is a marine species.
Occurs mainly on shells of molluscs but is also epilithic (Womersley 1994: 163).
Type locality: Ponta Leste, Arraialdo Cabo, Brazil (Womersley 1994: 163). Holotype: Herb. Instit. Pesquisas da Marinha, RJ YY4053F (Womersley 1994: 163).
