The type species (lectotype) of the genus Rhaphidium is Rhaphidium fasciculatum Kützing.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Monoraphidium contortum (Thuret) Komárková-Legnerová.

Syntype localities: "Hawksworth, W. Yorkshire ; in immense quantity amongst Myriophyllum spicatum. Also Pilmoor, near Thirsk, N. Yorkshire."; (West & West 1898: 335)
