The type species (lectotype) of the genus Conferva is Conferva rupestris Linnaeus.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Oedogonium tumidulum Wittrock ex Hirn.

Adjective A (Latin), somewhat swollen, protuberant or tumid.
