The type species (lectotype) of the genus Laurencia is Laurencia obtusa (Hudson) J.V.Lamouroux.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Laurencia filiformis (C.Agardh) Montagne.

Adjective (Latin), thread-like (Stearn 1973).
