The type species (holotype) of the genus Scrippsiella is Scrippsiella sweeneyae Balech.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Chiharadinium hexapraecingulum (T.Horiguchi & Chihara) Dawut & T.Horiguchi.
