The type species (lectotype) of the genus Achnanthes is Achnanthes adnata Bory.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Psammothidium rossii (Hustedt) Bukhtiyarova & Round.

Type locality: "Sample No. 2 from a ditch near Llorts which is in the only side valley of the republic…collected by Mr. J. Broadhead during the summer of 1966 and 1967." [Andorra]; (Carter 1970: 608) Type: J. Broadhead; ditch; BM; 77780 (Williams & Reid 2002: 138)
