Description
This variety differs from the type by having semicells with larger dimensions, rectangular basal angles and two pyrenoids. Cell length 81-82.5 µm, width 48-51 µm, breadth of isthmus 13-14.5 µm, thickness approximately 15 µm. Cells are larger than the type, about 1.7 times longer than they are broad, deeply constricted in the middle, and the sinus is closed linearly but is open slightly at the extremity. Semicells are pentagonal with rounded angles, basal angles are rectangular, and lower lateral margins are almost subparallel or converge slightly toward the narrow apex. Cell wall is sparsely and conspicuously scrobiculate above the centre. Side view of semicells is elliptical while vertical view of semicells is broadly elliptical with a thickened wall. Chloroplasts have two pyrenoids in each semicell.
