Distributional notes
According to Afonso-Carillo et al. (2006: 280), the distribution of this species is now known to be only the western Mediterranean and the Adriatic Sea. Records from Mediterranean Egypt and the Red Sea require re-examination. Previous extra-Mediterranean records from the eastern Atlantic are probably misidentifications of the species B. macaronesica Afonso-Carillo, Sobrino, Tittley & Neto. The reports from Kenya and Tanzania in the Indian Ocean have been considered as doubtful records. - (18 Sep 2006) - Wendy Guiry
