The type species (holotype) of the genus Dictyota is Dictyota dichotoma (Hudson) J.V.Lamouroux.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Stilophora tenella (Esper) P.C.Silva.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), papillate, covered with papillae (Stearn 1973).
