Type Information
Type locality: "St. Augustine Indiae occidentalis"; (Gurgel et al. 2004: 166) Lectotype: LD; 29649 (Gurgel et al. 2004: 166) Notes: The lectotype is designated (by Gurgel et al., 2004) to be LD 29649 (= Bot. Mus 89704-0014). Gurgel et al. note that the lectotype specimen has hand-written on it only "St. Augustine". They state that the locale surely is St. Augustine, Atlantic coast of Florida, and that the alga was probably collected and sent to J.G. Agardh by Mrs G. A. Hall of Florida.

Adjective (Latin), intermediate (Stearn 1973).
