Type locality: Corner Inlet, Victoria, Australia; (Woelkerling 1998: 286) Holotype: J. Gabriel; Jan.-Feb. 1897; 7-9 fathoms; TRH; B2-1721, includes slides 63, 64, 515 and four unnumbered slides (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 242) Notes: Isotypes: PC, General Herbarium box collection (non-fossil; filed in non-geniculate coralline type collections cabinet under basionym). BM, algal box collection 719.

Adjective (Latin), to be wondered at, wonderful, marvellous, extraordinary, admirable (Smith & Lockwood 1933).
