This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Eucheuma denticulatum (N.L.Burman) Collins & Hervey

Millar & Prud'homme van Reine (2005: 541) note that Weber-van Bosse (1928:415) reduced this species to a form of Eucheuma muricatum (S.G. Gmelin) Weber-van Bosse, forma opposita (Kützing) Weber-van Bosse. Silva et al. (1996) have shown that the earliest name for this species complex is Eucheuma denticulatum (Burman) Collins & Hervey. Millar & Prud'homme van Reine are not sure if the forma merits maintenance.
