The type species (lectotype) of the genus Micrasterias is Micrasterias furcata C.Agardh ex Ralfs.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pseudomicrasterias arcuata (Bailey) C.B.Araújo, C.E.M.Bicudo, Stastny & Skaloud.

Type locality: six miles from Pilatka Lake, Florida, USA; (Araújo & al. 2022: [7]) Holotype: [icon]pl. 1, fig. 6 in Bailey (1851), published with the protologue: (Araújo & al. 2022: [7]) Notes: Lakes in Florida (INA).
Origin of Species Name
Participle A (Latin), curved, like a bow (Stearn 1973).
