This is the type species (holotype) of the genus Ophidocladus.

Status of name
This name is of an entity that is currently accepted taxonomically.

Polysiphonia simpliciuscula P.Crouan & H.Crouan

Type information
Type locality: Anse du Minou, Finistère, France (Crouan & Crouan 1852: no. 302). Lectotype: PC 0581971 (Diaz-Tapia et al. 2014: 202, fig. 2). Notes: According to Womersley (2003: 337) the holotype should be in Herb. Crouan, CO and he describes an isotype (Crouan 302) in PC. No specimens of P. simpliciuscula were found in the Crouan brothers' Herbarium (CO but temporarily in PC), and a specimen corresponding to the Crouans' exsiccata was selected as lectotype in the herbarium of Thuret (Diaz-Tapia et al., 2014: 202).

Habitat notes
In upper sublittoral zone (0.5 m depth) of a rocky semi-exposed shore; epiphytic on Corallina elongata and associated with other epiphytes, such as Ceramium spp., Herposiphonia sucunda and Polysiphonia spp. (Tsiamis et al. 2010). - (29 Apr 2011) - Wendy Guiry

This is a marine species.

Habitat
Confined to lower eulittoral rock (Womersley 2003: 337).
