Type locality: Australia, Port Jackson [New South Wales] (Quoy & Gaimard 1824: 624). Holotype: collector unknown [?J.R. C.Quoy or P.Gaimard]; CN CN! [Herb. J.V.Lamouroux, Jania folder ‘C. 8 f. 75b (Harvey, Woelkerling & Reviers 2020: 264).

Adjective (Latin), flattened, usually laterally (Stearn 1973).
