The type species (holotype) of the genus Anabaena is Anabaena oscillarioides Bory ex Bornet & Flahault .

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dolichospermum curvum (H.Hill) P.Wacklin, L.Hoffmann & J.Komárek.

Type locality: Christmas Lake, about 30 km west of Minneapolis, Minnesota; (Hill 1976: 61)8 September to 11 October 1974; (Hill 1976: 61) Notes: Type not indicated.
