Moestrup & Calado (2018: 469) note "Cells described as variable, almost round or ovoid, moderately dorsoventrally compressed, 37 × 30 µm in size; epi- and hypotheca about equal in length; girdle more or less spiral; sulcus short and acute; many brown chloroplasts; nucleus ellipsoid; eyespot not seen. The diagnostic features of this species are not sufficient for reliable recognition. It should be considered a nomen inquirendum and its use discontinued." - (28 Aug 2020) - M.D. Guiry
