Type locality: St Barthélemy, West Indies (Woelkerling et al. 2005: 188). Holotype: Goes; 1867; TRH A23-1381, includes slides 435 and 436 (Woelkerling et al. 2005: 188). Notes: Isotype: PC, unnumbered, General Herbarium box collection (non-fossil; filed in non-geniculate coralline type collections cabinet under basionym). St. Barthélemy is part of the Lesser Antilles, one of the three island groups comprising the West Indies, along with the Greater Antilles and the Bahamas.
Origin of species name
Participle B (Latin), becoming shrubby (Stearn 1973).
