Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), deep red, from scarlet to carmine and crimson (Stearn 1973).

General Environment
This is a marine species.

Description
Delicate, monstromatic, rose-red frond, at first a hollow vesicle, later flattened and leafy, to 40 mm long, attached by basal disc.

Habitat
Epiphytic on Desmerestia aculeata and other subtidal algae (to 25 m).
