Type locality: Bay of Islands, New Zealand (Womersley 1984: 184). Lectotype: Hombron s.n.; PC herbier général folder 48 (Leliaert & Coppejans 2006: 672). Notes: Type in Herb. Montagne, PC (Womersely, 1984: 184). Isotype in NY (Leliaert & Coppejans, 2006: 672).

This species was introduced into the Mediterranean (Verlaque et al. 2015: 263) via the Suez Canal, being first found at Alexandria and Sallum, Egypt prior to 1948. Now widespread on Libyian, Egyptian and Levantine coast. - (6 Nov 2015) - M.D. Guiry
