Taxonomic notes
Lipkin & Silva (2002: 32) record H. cispella from Southern Red Sea. They note that their plants were referable to H. crispella var. laxa, which appears to be merely a shaded-habitat ecophene. - (9 Jun 2010) - Wendy Guiry

Habitat notes
Widespread in most warm seas Southern Red Sea: in shaded cavelet in coral rock. ca. 50 cm depth, on Chondrophycus parvipapillatus (Lipkin & Silva 2002). Northern Red Sea: common on coral reefs, as well as in the epiphytic algal community on seagrass leaves (Lipkin, pers. obs. in Lipkin & Silva 2002). - (9 Jun 2010) - Wendy Guiry
