Nomenclatural notes
See Silva, Basson & Moe (1996: 934) in respect of the nomenclatural authorities; the combination was erroneously attributed to J. Agardh by Gain (1912: 31).

Taxonomic notes
While investigating Acrosiphonia arcta, Saunders & Kucera (2010) discovered a cryptic species (Acrosiphonia sp. 1GWS) collected from the Pacific. "A. arcta" samples were collected from the Atlantic indicating that A. arcta as currently considered may not inhabit both oceans. - (15 Apr 2013) - Wendy Guiry
