This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Acrochaetium catenulatum M.Howe

Taxonomic notes
Stegenga (1985) and Stegenga et al. (1997) considered that A. denusum (Rhodochorton densum) and A. catenulatum were phases in the same life history. Garbary (1987: 58) list a synonymy between this species and Audouinella densa (Levring) Garbary (1979)
