Type locality: Mooball Creek, New South Wales, Australia (West & al. 2005: 50). Holotype: J.A. West and others; 25 September 2002; Epiphytic on various algae occurring on the base of Lumnitzera racemosa Willdenow, a mangrove species. NSW 610972 (West & al. 2005: 53). This is a marine species.
Thallus less than 1 mm tall. Unicellular base forming uniseriate filaments (10-14 µm diameter), and forming multiseriate filaments (20-25 µm diameter) by oblique cell divisions. Cells enclosed by a clear matrix, uninucleate with single parietal multilobed, liver-to purple-coloured chloroplast lacking a pyrenoid and possesing a peripheral thylakoid. Golgi complex associated with rough endoplasmic reticulum. Reproduction occurs when vegetative cells are liberated as motile monospores (10-13 µm diameter). Low molecular weight carbohydrates are digeneaside and sorbitol.
