Nomenclatural note
Frequently spelled “Ceramium deslongschampii” and this was the spelling used in the AlgaeBase until 11 May 2000. Rueness (10 May 2000 in ALGAE-L) commented: “...first validly published by Duby (1830), based on no. 85 in Chauvin's exsiccata: Algues de la Normandie. The epithet commemorates the French paleontologist J.A. Eudes-Deslongchamps. The spelling employed in Duby (1830, p.967) is without the "s", most likely due to a typographical error. Article 60.1 of the Code permits correction of typographical and orthographical errors. I therefore think that a case can be made for considering deslongchampsii the correct spelling. Both spellings are found in the literature. With a "s" in e.g.: Kützing 1841,1849; Rosenvinge 1924; Newton 1931; Parke & Dixon 1968, and in most papers by French phycologists (van Heurck 1908; Feldmann & Magne 1964; Coppejans 1995) who are aware of the terminal "s" in the family name Deslongchamps. Spelling without the "s" occur in e.g. Agardh 1894; De Toni 1903; Taylor 1957; Maggs & Hommersand 1993. In Harvey (1849) and other papers both spelling variants occur in the same publication.” Dr Paul Silva (in e-mail, 11 May 2000) subsequently wrote: “The ICBN is clear on the matter. The correct spelling of the epithet is deslongchampsii.” (Guiry, pers. comm.) - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
