Type locality: Stansbury, South Australia, Australia (Womersley & Johansen 1996: 299). Holotype: Womersley; 14 October 1989; 2-3 m deep on Posidonia australis. AD A59922 (Womersley & Johansen 1996: 299).

Adjective (Latin), little, small, puny (Stearn 1985).

Womersley (1996) notes that this species is recorded from Point Turton, S. Aust., to American R. inlet, Kangaroo I., S. Aust. (probably more widely distributed in calm water localities).
